Black cows and dark nights do not mix well together.

The last 24 hours have been a disaster!! It all started out on Tuesday night with an innocent text from my cousin Alyssa asking if I would go with her to Wendover Nevada and keep her company. She was helping out her Grandpa (which I am not related to) shuffle some of his vehicles around. Alyssa started her day in Boise, swinging through Fairfield to pick up her grandpa and on to Twin to get me. They were suppose to be here around 10 but it ended up being about 12:30 because she had some car trouble. That should have been the clue that the day was going to be a wreck!!

We made pretty good time, it only took us about 3 hours to get to where we were going (the middle of the desert, about 35 miles north of Wendover) We only made two stops, one in Jackpot and the other in Wells for food and gas. Alyssa and I helped her grandpa unload and load back up his truck and we headed out of there around 5 in the afternoon. Alyssa was going to be driving, I was just there for the good conversation. Well about half and hour into our journey home, she realized that she had left her wallet in Wells on the back of the toilet. Everything was in her wallet..debit card, drivers licence, social security card, and over $100 in cash. Of course it was no where to be found when we called the store and no one had turned it in!!! What a bummer this was. She was not able to cancel her card either because she didn't know her checking account number, the best the bank did was put a temporary freeze on her account.

So needless to say, I was going to have to drive her home because she had no licence. We made it back to Twin around 8, I emailed my professors telling them I was unable to attend classes today and we were back on the road around 9. We had to go back up to Fairfield to drop off her grandpa's truck and pick up her car before we went to Boise. We were about 7 miles away from his house, going on some back roads. The speed limit was 40, yet I'm kinda a wuss when driving in the dark and was doing well under the speed limit. Thank God I was. Out of nowhere a black cow walked right in front of the truck. There was no warning at all that she was there. I managed to only clip her on the driver side of the truck but I caught both of her back legs in the wheels and broke them. We were both pretty shook up but not hurt.

We called the sheriff's office and because it was Fairfield had to wait about 30 min. for the officer to show up. He took my statement, took a bunch of photographs of the truck and cow. Meanwhile the owners of the cow came upon us and put the poor animal out of her misery. This all took about 2 hours to resolve and I still had to drive to Boise. It was getting late and I was so jumpy. I drove to Mt. Home not even braking 50 mph. We eventually made it to her parents house in Boise around 3:30 in the morning. Mike had drove up to Boise that night and stayed with his sister so he could bring me home today.

So I am finally home and ready for bed. I guess I learned my lesson...Black cows and dark nights do not mix well together!!

I'm glad you're ok! So what did the owner say about the cow being on the road to begin with?

He said the cow had just come off of the range and was not use to fences.
